The Calgary CopWatch Collective

The Calgary CopWatch Collective was formed by a group of individuals in the summer of 2009 in response to the actions that are carried out by many members of the Calgary Police Service. We stand by our statement that the police service in the city of Calgary does not show compassion for every person in this city, They exclude the rights of the people, and abuse the power that is given to them. Many people are especially subject to this if they do not know their rights, this is something the cops will take advantage of when the situation presents itself. These infractions can be as large as assaulting innocent individuals or as small as demanding the identification of a person who is not being detained. The citizens of Calgary need to show the police that they are PUBLIC SERVANTS.

\We here at the CCWC would like the Calgary police force to know that we are not a threat and this is not a threat to you in any way. We are just here to observe and report, and we have the legal rights to do so. We hope you understand that we are just here for the people, and that we understand that not every officer goes above the law. But for those that do, we are watching, and ready to help out the citizens of this fine city in times of need.

The Calgary CopWatch Collective is here to create a non-violent community that keeps an eye on what happens on the streets of Calgary involving individuals and the police, through use of notebooks, video, photos, and voice recordings. We intend to educate the public about the abuse of power that happens in Calgary and let the police know that they cannot get away with the things they do. Because in the end, its the people who have the power to change things. If your reading this site and want to help, you are instantly part of the collective.

The Calgary CopWatch understands that sometimes force is needed, but the cases where it has been used over the years could have been totally avoided had proper training been given to the Public Servants of the citizens of Calgary. An officer who has been well trained won't throw an innocent person to the ground, demand that all cameras be turned off, demand identification when it is not needed, do searches without warrants, or cuss, and use scare tactics on people who demand their rights be upheld.
